Meeting The Muse while composing a poem

Stillness leads us to the temple within.  Poetry can lead there also.  A well crafted poem takes us out of the world while it also puts us totally into it.  The poem gives distance and involvement at the same time; we become the witness to life’s process.

A Rainy Day
I’m taking this rainy day off
Quiet as a feather floating lazily to the ground
Though I barely move I travel a great distance
In the thundering stillness
The temple door opens

In this poem I step out of my daily routine and become still.  In that stillness I barely move and quiet as a feather float lazily to the ground.  In the thundering stillness the temple doors within open and I am invited to explore…

For Five Days This Summer

A challenge: write a poem each day for five days.

Amazing Grace
He sings out
Proclaiming the grace
Of those fallen
To shooters’ bullets
Will we stand
With those who
Have gone before
Does every life
Matter???

Roots
My Roots run deep
A linage traced
To strong women
The men who
Loved them
The children
Conceived by them
The thread passes
From my ancestors
Through me
To my sons
I trace this past
I cannot see
The future

Untruth
Culture tells us
Lies
Teaches us
Conformity for
The sake
Of acceptance
Lies to us
About beauty
Who we think
We are
Rather than
Being ourselves
We strive to
Reflect cultures
Illusions
Perceptions
Of non-truths

Silence
Is difficult, arduous
It pulls us inward
To explore the landscape
Of our inner being
It takes us close
To our demons
As we sit down with them
And invite them to tea
We learn
It is not the mountain
We conquer
But ourselves
Silence invites us
To do this

Paradox
When our practice
Changes focus from
What we think
We want
To allowing life to
Live itself
We lean into
A most ingenious
Paradox
Of Transformation
We relax into
Open awareness of
One perfect moment
After another
